Edward Barnwell: performer, composer and educator.
Edward joined the Mirrortown collective almost right at the beginning and is single-handedly responsible for some of the most memorable music written for the group's commissions.
Born in Harrogate, Edward started playing the piano at the age of four. His formal education included four years' study at the Yehudi Menuhin School, to which he was awarded a scholarship at the age of nine, and a Postgraduate diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music. He also has an honours degree in Physics from the University of Durham.
Edward has given numerous public performances over the years. He is an active composer and has wide musical interests encompassing the fields of jazz and contemporary music. He has an extensive classical piano repertoire and he regularly composes for and performs with ensembles playing jazz, latin and African music. He has written music for forces varying from solo piano to full orchestra.
His recent work has included performances and commissions for the Edinburgh Festival and the Manchester Jazz Festival, and he can be regularly seen performing on the Northwest jazz circuit and beyond.
In such spare time that he has, he maintains interests in astronomy, photography and hill walking.
